An excursion to the Orthodox village chapels on Ilkonsaari island.
Experience Greater Saimaa and Ilkonsaari, where the path leads from one Orthodox chapel to the next. In just 15 years, five small Orthodox chapels were built on this naturally beautiful island.
The island offers some interesting natural attractions, such as an underwater sandbank that can be walked over 300 metres.
The island is also an ideal setting for a full-day trip, with plenty of paths, outdoor toilets, sheltered barbeque spots, lean-tos and sandy beaches. The island is part of the Saimaa Geopark. For more information about the island, see also the website of the South Karelia Foundation for Recreation Areas.
The excursion will be made in a covered TG 6.9 boat ("M/S Lintusalo""), which can take 7 passengers. Your boat master and guide will be Matti Viialainen.
