The journey to the Sarviniemi hiking destination takes you across the vast open waters of Lake Saimaa, such as Varissaarenselkä and Pajusaarenselkä. Sarviniemi is maintained by the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation.
A visit to Sarviniemi can easily be combined with a trip to another great hiking destination, the opposite Rastiniemi. Both locations feature horn-shaped sandy peninsulas, with Sarviniemi even boasting two.
Both sites are maintained by the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation, which is known for its well-planned and well-maintained hiking destinations.
You can read more about Sarviniemi on the luontoon.fi website, the South Karelia Recreation Area Foundation’s website, the Retkipaikka website, or even the Outdooractive website.
These same sources also provide information about Rastiniemi and other destinations maintained by the recreation area foundation—one of the most stunning being Ilkonsaari, a skete island located in Greater Saimaa.
The Rasti Bike Ferry Also Operates This Route
During the summer, the Rasti bike ferry travels from Sarviniemi, also providing access to Rastiniemi, to the Nestorinranta dock in Lintusalo. The Rasti ferry transports cyclists riding along the Saimaa Archipelago Route and also makes a stop at Nestorinranta, where cyclists can transfer to another cycling route, the Puumala Archipelago Route.
